Authentic recipe for shepherds pie, using local ingredients?
This must be an original reciipe with authentic local Lakeland shepherd and Welsh say .. As im not due to sheepdogs omit this from your reciipe., Wellingtons etc. also.
Make sure the meat is hung to ensure tenderness. Mince meat - a little fat on the meat will ensure that the resulting cake will be juicy and flavorful. Make Brown the meat and the finely chopped onion in a saucepan, add Stockcube and 1 liter of water. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon dried herbs to meat mixture. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, boil peeled potatoes in a pan of water and when (approximately 20 min tender), drain and mash until smooth. Season to taste and add a knob of butter and splash of milk for creaminess. Put meat mixture into an ovenproof dish, top with potatoes. Rough up the potato above ground to ensure that crisps and browns in the oven. Bake in hot oven (gas 5 to 6) for about 30 minutes or until potato is golden brown and mix the meat is boiling. Hope you enjoy your pie authentic shepherds! (Note: Make thin shepherd is 100% and is stripped before mincing. Excess hair and clothing may be known to clog chopper. Wash thoroughly before mincing to weed out odors.)
